Come and Play! Capitola beach is known for its relaxed village vibe, with its gently sloped sandy beach, and a bay which hosts kelp beds and sea otters. It is a great place to spend your Sunday.  Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is gaining popularity as a sweet way to cruise on the water. We will start with yoga on the beach with Misako – going over the moves we later test out on the boards.  Then SUP expert Gloria Riola will give you a lesson on how to paddle. Once you get comfortable navigating we will take a tour and finish off with a guided sequence of yoga postures on the SUP.  On paddleboards, you can feel how the alignment and actions of the yoga poses create balance, as when we are not balanced, the board will wobble, and you may even tip over, and enjoy a dip in the ocean. Yin Yoga for a Healthy Back:

functional anatomy, theory and practice

Sunday Sept 30, 2012
1:30pm-4:30pm
Avalon Yoga Palo Alto

In this workshop, Misako Matsuoka will guide you in the practice of Yin Yoga emphasizing the postures beneficial for the low back.  We will explore why the functional anatomy focus of Yin yoga  determines the compression or tension in the body and how you can modify Yin postures for your unique bone structure.  We will examine our anatomical range through of motion tests to help understand why every posture should be modified to fit the unique skeletal structures of the individual.

Yin Yoga is meditative, healing practice using passive, long-held floor poses. Yin yoga not only lengthens the muscles and but allows you to nourish and strengthen the deeper tissues as well as balancing the energetic meridians.   Connective tissues, fascia, joints, ligaments and bones receive gentle, low load stress.  The poses are held between 1-5 minutes and the muscles stay passive in order to target the deeper tissues. Each Yin pose is an opportunity to go inward and find an appropriate balance of effort and ease.

Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Mother’s Day Yoga Workshop

Saturday May 12, 2012 ~ 1:30pm-4:30pm

On the Saturday before Mother’s Day, enjoy a blissful afternoon of yoga and community at  the beautiful Breathe Studio in Los Gatos.

Mothers today juggle more tasks, work longer hours, and sleep less than their own mothers did. We as mothers simply push ourselves beyond our natural human limits, burning our candles at both ends because it is what everyone around is doing and we forget that it is not balanced. Self care is often the last on the priority list as we are busily taking care of others. When we forget to self care, our energies become depleted, our own body systems become weakened, and our ability to provide care is impaired. Often we start to lose our loving connection to others and to ourselves. It is vital to take the time replenish ourselves energetically and physically to rebalance our lives.

In this yoga workshop the intention will be to celebrate and replenish yourself with blissful yoga in the community of other radiant supportive women. Misako will guide you in restorative yoga, gentle yang yoga, pranayama, guided meditation and community building to tend to the caregiver in you.  This workshop will be appropriate for beginners and experienced yoginis alike.  Grandmother’s are welcome!

Location:  Breathe Yoga Studio, Los Gatos
Cost: $55  Breathe members receive 10% discount.
Makes a wonderful Mother’s Day gift!
