SUP Yoga is an amazing way to strengthen, stretch, relax, meditate and practice balancing. If you are looking to get outdoors with your practice, then SUP Yoga is a perfect way to do it.  Nature replaces your studio and the board becomes your yoga mat. Both beginner and advanced yogis can enjoy practicing yoga on a stand-up paddleboard. Your practice can be as mellow or as challenging as you want it to be. This workshop is 2 hours long and begins with a gentle warm up on land before getting on the water. No prior experience on a stand-up paddleboard is required and all equipment is provided. Sign up online

For Moms: Pure Restorative Yoga Bliss!

Mothers today juggle more tasks, work longer hours, and sleep less than their own mothers did. We as mothers often push ourselves beyond our limits. Self care is often the last on the priority list as we are busily taking care of others. When we forget to self care, our energies become depleted, our own body systems become weakened, and our ability to provide care to others is impaired.

In this yoga workshop the intention will be to  replenish yourself with blissful yoga in the community of other radiant supportive women. Misako will guide you in restorative yoga, pranayama and guided meditation to tend to the caregiver in you.  This workshop will be appropriate for beginners and experienced yoginis alike.  Grandmother’s and caregivers are welcome!

Yin Yoga for Wintertime: Rest, Give, & Receive

Nature in winter time settles down to nourish, replenish and rest. The darker months of winter, the most yin time of the year, is a time where we can enter into contemplation and cultivate a connection to the new potential that we look forward to in spring.

In this workshop, we will examine the yin yoga postures related to winter time. You will be linger in meditative yin postures with the postures assisted by use of blankets, bolsters and other yoga props.lydia_yoga_twist_sqr

You will then partner up to learn how to provide and receive assisted Yin Yoga stretches.  Bring a friend or come on your own! Assisted Yin Yoga stretches allow you to receive lengthening yin stretches while relaxing completely.

This practice is for all levels and open to all yoga students.

Teaching Yoga to Older Adults: Foundational Training

Learning to teach yoga to older adults safely and mindfully is becoming an increasingly important skill. In this training led by Misako Matsuoka, E-RYT500, you will learn strategies for adapting yoga practices for older adults with a focus on bone health and balance. The format of the training will be lecture, movement, practice-teaching sessions, and discussion.

Training topics will include:

  • Chair Yoga
  • Assisted floor, standing and balance postures
  • Practices to build strength, flexibility, and balance
  • Safe and effective yoga sequences for older adults
  • How to support older adults with restrictions in group classes
  • Modifications of yoga postures to accommodate health conditions common to seniors such as osteoporosis, arthritis, and joint replacement
  • Practical strategies for modifying yoga practices for older bodies, mind, and spirits.

This immersion is designed for yoga teachers or those experienced yoga students who want to learn how yoga practices can support the well being of older students. Continuing Education Units available for Registered Yoga Teachers.

Yoga on the Beach Sunday May 31, 2015


Join me for a sweet morning meditation and practice where you will have the ocean for your soundtrack, the smell of salty air, sand under the toes and the vision of the ocean horizon to enjoy.

We will meet at Capitola Beach 8:50am.  Please register so that if the event date changes you will be kept informed!  Capitola can be cool in the mornings, so wear your layers, bring your towel and your love of nature. No charge for this Community Event!

Spring Retreat under the Redwoods ~ Saturday May 30, 2015

Join Misako at The Land of Medicine Buddha in the Santa Cruz mountains, a deeply tranquil retreat center under sheltering redwoods just an hour drive from San Jose, California.

Your day will include seasonal Yin and Yang yoga practices geared to the spring and summertime, a healthy vegetarian lunch, creative practices, and time for a leisurely stroll under the redwoods.

All electronic devices will put aside so that you can fully enjoy a daylong “digital detox.”

Spring and early summer are optimal times to connect to your inner creative and transformative processes. Sometimes we feel blocked in our intentions. We will explore how to release blockages through yoga, writing, drawing, meditation and other techniques to facilitate deep self connection and renewal. Surrounded by the beauty of the redwood forest, you will find the support to reconnect to your inner vitality and to fully refresh your spirit.

All levels of yoga experience are welcome. Misako offers mindfulness based yoga practices that will allow you to be at ease with your body just as it is.
